DEC-010 — Renergence: usage and forbidden substitutes

Authority: Renergence Canon v1.0 | Edition: 1.0 | Status: Active

What Renergence names

Renergence (noun) — the condition of engagement in which sustained interaction returns more than it takes. It is a property of a relational system over time. Not a feeling, not a personality trait, not an achievement, not an optimization target.

Renergence is relational: it does not live inside a person or inside an activity. It appears in the interaction between a person and a context, and only becomes visible through repetition.

Noun usage

Renergence occurs, appears, is present, is absent, is lost, is signaled, emerges, disappears.

✓ OK✗ Forbidden
Renergence was present in the early phase.Renergence is achieved.
Renergence disappeared as the role changed.Renergence is built.
She noticed the absence of Renergence. She created Renergence.
What does this interaction return? That is the Renergence question. We need to deliver Renergence.

Renergence is never the object of "achieve," "create," "build," or "deliver." These verbs treat it as an output to be produced. Renergence is a condition that is noticed, not a result that is made.

Adjective usage

Renergent — describes situations, relationships, roles, paths, periods, interactions. Never people.

✓ OK✗ Forbidden
a renergent roleshe is renergent
which situations were renergent?renergent people
a renergent period in her careerhe has a renergent nature

First-mention rule

Renergence is a coined term (Steven Rudolph). No existing term captured the concept. On first use in any new content piece, the term appears without special marking. When introducing it to a new audience, state briefly that it is a coined term — not with disclaimer but with clarity: "a condition we call renergence."

Key test

Renergence functions like a natural phenomenon — gravity, tidal pull, entropy. Apply the gravity test: can you replace "renergence" with "gravity" and have it remain grammatically coherent as a phenomenon?

  • "A good week doesn't signal gravity" → works → "A good week doesn't signal Renergence" ✓
  • "A good week isn't gravity" → broken → "A good week isn't Renergence" ✗

Forbidden substitutes

✗ ForbiddenWhy
burnoutClinical register; Renergence is relational, not clinical
energyToo vague and psychological; use "return" or "capacity"
motivationPsychological axis; Renergence is relational/energetic
balanceImplies equal distribution; Renergence is about return, not balance
resiliencePersonal trait; Renergence is not about endurance capacity
sustainableImplies indefinite continuation; Renergence is about return present now
energizingDifferent axis — energizing is front-loaded activation; Renergence is long-run return
alignmentUse only for the MN framework construct; "fit" for general fit
